A Treasure
I realize tastes change and the music industry is driven by youth, but what's become of the great jazz and pop singers like Johnny Hartman? His music and voice is timeless.

Johnny Hartman delivers a song with style with perfect diction and clarity.
Back in my youth I admired and listened to Billy Eckstine at every opportunity. He was andstill is one of my favorite male vocalists. I never heard of Johnny Hartman until the moviewith Clint Eastwood, "Bridges of Madison County" came out and I heard this mellow, captivating male vocalist whom I truly enjoyed as much as Billy Eckstine going back to thefifties.I researched his work and now own a half dozen or so Cd's dedicated to his large volumeof recorded songs and I am more than pleased with the man's artistry in delivering aromantic old standard love song putting his personal stamp and technique and beautifulvoice on each and every one.The man was incredibly talented and he left us prematurely much too soon. You too will find his voice mellow and relaxing and a nice background for a romanticinterlude with your favorite other.

Smooth as Silk The Voice
This is now one of my favorite discs and has been playing in my car since I purchased it. The sound is incredible and if you have heard Hartman sing before then you don't need me to go on and on about his voice, timing or emotional conveyances. The sound on the second disc is better than the first and I would suggest listening to the discs in order. I made the mistake of listening to disc two first, which made the first disc's sonic value or lack there of stand out. Most of this is attributed to the time period in which the tracks were recorded and the associated equipment. The one thing that never disappoints is that voice.

Jazz Crooner Deluxe
Wow! If you like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, you have got to lovethis guy! What a singer! I probably have around 300 c.d.'s , and this is my absolute favorite. Disc 2 in this set is a treasure. The voice is there in disc 1, but his growth in phrasing and timing is obvious in disc 2.I am not a professional musician or critic. Just a guy who sings and plays a lot and enjoys beautiful music and beautiful vocals. In my humble opinion, Johnny Hartman is the best male singer of this genre ever! Between him and Diana Kralljazz standards are at their best. A truly amazing disc made even greater by thefantastic choice of songs and the sweet saxophone of John Coltrane on "My One andOnly Love" and "Lush Life."

This man was so talented.
This is a very good CD. Except on cut is scratched. But for the most part it is all good.

Under-appreciated during his lifetime
While most people can identify Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Nat King Cole, Johnny Hartman is less likely to register with a casual listener. Having died in 1983, just before CDs became widespread and gave those other singers a second life, Hartman was not as popular as his contemporaries, but that does not diminish his amazing voice. In fact, the fact that he is less well known, lends him a cachet for those of us who do enjoy his singing. "Lush Life" is the best demonstration of his rich voice, fused with the talent of John Coltrane on saxophone. The other songs on this 2-CD set show the evolution his singing style, including "That Old Black Magic", "My One and Only Love", and "September in the Rain."

Really surprised that this singer was not a big star.
My wife had ordered a CD of John Coltrane with Johnny Hartman on vocals and we were just blown away by his wonderful voice, so we ordered this compilation and we were not disappointed at all. Had no problems with the seller and the CD arrived when it was supposed to. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you get it.
