Russian Babushka Blue and Red International Chess Game Set, 16.5 Inches

This was a Gift for a resort in Jamaica. It is very unique and the handmade workmanship was excellent. The cleverly made pieces added a little more entertainment value to the game. Well worth the price. This is not a children's game. I enjoy the expressions on the guest as the watched folks playing during the afternoon shower. It was a good purchase. Yeah!

This is a beautiful and unique gift. The wooden pieces are really gorgeous. The paint is bright, and glossy and the design of this chess set is fabulous. My husband has been to Russia several times and I just knew he would like this set. The board is very sturdy, and it folds in half (pieces are houses inside/under) which it makes it compact and organized. The only thing that I will point out is the fitted green insert that houses all the pieces was not glued in with my set. If you were to open it and set the board up, the fitted inserts just fall out. They are actually very thin/crinkly plastic with a fuzzy coating, exactly like the inserts inside of chocolate boxes that hold the individual pieces. From the photos and the price point I was expecting something a little sturdier, durable or at least glued in place. All that being said the beauty of the board and pieces make up for it, however you have to be more careful setting it up and breaking it down. I got this product for a discount in exchange for an honest review.

I collect matrushka nesting dolls, my grandkids love them. I bought this as a gift for one of the kids who also loves to play chess. The colors are great but the smell is awful! It's a paint smell that is hard to describe, nasty. I have them wrapped in newspapers right now, hoping the paper will absorb some of the odor. It's a shame such beautiful items are so rank!

Board quality is fantastic, there is detail on it that does not show in the picture. The pieces are done with great care. Faces are detailed beautifully. Colors are bright and eye catching. Interior of board is well made, holds all pieces in place securely. Gorgeous show piece! Really is a steal for the price.

I received the chess set within 48 hrs. It is stunningly beautiful with so much attention to detail. Each piece is encased inside a very attractive board/carry case. Would definitely recommend this product. Very excited to give to my 6 year granddaughter for Christmas given her Russian heritage. Upon opening, missing 2 blue knights and no longer available.

I was excited to see this chess set offered for sale because it reminded me of some wooden nesting dolls I had received as a child from my Polish relatives. The board and pieces are lightweight and the playing area is nicely detailed with etched borders. The green plastic felt that holds the pieces is very thin and can be removed from the case. I took it out to make it easier to place the pieces on the board so I didn't have to remove them individually before setting the playing area flat. The pieces are painted nicely BUT my biggest complaint is that the colors are not what they should be. One side is predominantly bright red with light blue and the other side is predominantly purple with bright red. The color combinations make it harder to tell apart. I'll still enjoy playing with this set but it would have been nice if the colors made sense.Disclosure: I received this product at a discount in exchange for my honest review.

This set is adorable and unique! We love the beautiful colors and details. The pieces are lightweight, but not too light. My son is 5 years old and just learning to play, and he was excited when he saw these cute pieces. Thank you!
